WHAT IS A PIXELSTICK PORTRAIT?

A Pixelstick photo session strives to document the best moments of childhood as seen through an artist’s eye. Rather than studio posing, Pixelstick Photography relies on the intuitive nature of the artist, owner Cynthia Grimm, to create a gallery-quality work of art centered around your child.

A Huntington native, Grimm has spent the last 15 years exhibiting in galleries, shooting for local newspapers and pursuing her love of children’s portraiture. Leaving the studio behind, her on-location portraits allow for your children or pets to be photographed where they feel most comfortable- at home, at the park, or even at the beach. Your final print, which will be signed and numbered, is a unique creation reflecting the individuality of your child. Many client prints have been exhibited, with permission, in galleries across Long Island.

THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND IT, BY CYNTHIA GRIMM

Anyone can take a picture. Photography is a technical science and all one needs to do is read a manual, set up a few lights, and there you go. Picture taken.

I don’t take pictures. Anymore. After my son was born, I filled up album after album of pictures. They’re fine, he’s adorable, but it wasn’t about the craft of the photo, it was just about my complete abandonment of reason in thinking that I needed to document his every waking moment, in four-color glory. Due to my pregnancy, I had to abandon the darkroom and was ready to become what remained...a snapshot shooter.

One day, a brilliant invention called Photoshop changed my life completely. No longer relegated to accepting whatever the photo lab returned to me, I had the chance to scan photos and improve them. And "improving" those first few pictures turned out to be nearly impossible. You see, all the technology in the world can’t make art. If the initial intent is a snapshot, the end product will be a modified snapshot.

Now fully a proponent of the digital age, while I do cherish my digital camera, I still do not believe in all the bells and whistles. An artist can make art with pencil and paper. Ok, a fine art photographer does need a camera, but somewhere between the camera and the subject is where the true art lies. The miracles of Photoshop and all its saving graces do allow one to enhance the final work of art, but it is still the artist that creates it.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Pixelstick photo sessions are a relaxed, enjoyable experience for you and your child. Favorite toys, books and even the family dog can help make for a fun session that will yield many precious memories. Sessions will generally range from 30 - 60 minutes, depending on the subject.

Within two weeks, you will receive eight 4x6 proofs digitally enchanced for the artistic merit of the piece. Prints may be ordered at anytime, at the price schedule here. All printing is done on Kodak Professional Endura Supra Luster, Royal Matte or Glossy paper as a C-print for stability and a longevity of 200 years.

Offering sizes ranging from wallet to 20x30, as well as greeting cards, think of Pixelstick Photography as your chance to create a lasting impression of your child’s most precious years.

PRICING

Photo sessions are $150 for up to two children; $50 for each additional child, at the location of your choice. Sessions will range from 30-60 minutes, depending on the subject. In the case of inclement weather, a reshoot will be scheduled.

Within two weeks, you will receive eight 4x6 proofs artistically enhanced at no extra charge. Due to the nature of digital photography, sizes shown are full-frame images, uncropped as seen in proofs. Traditional print sizes (5x7, 8x10, 11x14) may be ordered at the same price, but will be cropped to fit.
